Great ways to gather design options

Want to see examples of new and creative ways to use windows both in overall design as well as function? Then:

  • Visit the “Parade of Homes” when it’s advertised in your area. Most major cities or regions have some sort of home showcase period, either in the spring or fall or sometimes both. Around this part of the Midwest, the Spring Home Show is the best time to see the newest trends and options being used by today’s home builders. (It’s also a great way to stay on top of the current decorating trends.) A walk through these homes, especially one’s that are in the upper-bracket price range, usually provides fascinating, interesting or call it whatever you like ways of using windows.
  • Keep an eye out, too, for a remodeler’s home tour. Though not as prevalent as a builder’s show parade, remodeling home tours feature smaller projects that are often just what the DIY homeowner is looking to uncover. If you’re not sure when these events take place in your area, contact your local Builder’s Association office. Check the yellow pages under “Home Builders”. You can also check with your city’s inspection office.
  • Drive through new home construction developments. Although you may not be able to or want to get out and trudge around on a construction site for safety reasons, a slow drive around the development will give you a good look at what size, styles and shapes of windows are being used. Visit the development’s display home and/or office. The real estate agents are generally very cordial and willing to answer any of your questions.
